Maltese Wineries

Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker

Delicata might well be the most awarded winery of Malta located in the heart of the Mediterranean where Phoenicians grew grapes hundreds of years ago. Like their Tyrian purple dye, prized in antiquity because the colour became brighter with weathering, Delicata’s wines capture the Islands’ sunlight. They shine at renowned wine competitions and have amassed over 100 international awards.

Marnisi Estate

Planted in 1994 in Marsaxlokk, the Marnisi Estate was the first in the series of Marsovin-owned Estates specifically intended for the production of premium quality wines. The Estate is spread across 73.2 tumoli of land and is planted with over 50,000 vines, consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The yields from this Estate are low thus guaranteeing the highest quality and depth of character.

Marsovin Cellars

The Marsovin Cellars reflect the commitment and passion of four generations of wine-makers – a blend of tradition and expertise evolved over 90 years. Over 100,000 bottles and 220 oak barrels are aged in these cellars. A practice as rare as the quality it creates. All the finer labels, the varietals and classics, are matured and aged in the dark stillness of the cellars which lie adjacent to the winery at Marsa.  The wine is aged in imported barrels of French or American oak, which imparts specific qualities to the nature of the wine and its aroma.

Marsovin Ramla Valley Estate

In 2001 around 18,000 Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco grape vines were planted in the Ramla Valley Estate in Gozo. The Estate spans over 38 tumoli of land situated in the heart of the Valley. The location of this Estate particularly favours the growth of the noble grape variety, Chardonnay. The hillsides shelter the vines from the long hot summer days and the cool breeze coming from the bay helps the crop to retain its high acidity level.

Meridiana Wine Estate

Meridiana Wine Estate has pioneered in Malta the production of premium quality wines, “World-Class Wines of Maltese Character” – internationally acclaimed wines made from wine-grapes grown exclusively in Maltese soil. The enthusiastic reviews about Meridiana’s wines received from Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson have helped put Malta on the world’s wine-map. The name Meridiana and the estate’s sundial insignia have been inspired by our archipelago’s Southern European location

Ta’ Mena Estate

Ta’ Mena Estate is owned by the Spiteri family and was founded by their late mother Carmela, popularly known as Mena, and her late husband Frank who together worked hard to purchase and cultivate the land. Mena passed away in April 1986 but her husband continued to take care of the estate and operate the fruit shop. In 2002 the Spiteri Family decided to regenerate the two hectares of agricultural land which used to be a fruit and vegetable garden, thus realising their late parents’ dream of integrating agriculture with tourism so that one sector sustains the other. Today more land has been added to the estate which now covers around twenty five hectares.

Tal-Massar Winery

This the smallest winery on the Maltese islands, yet the only one that produces high quality wines made from grapes grown without the use of herbicides. All grapes are grown in its private terraced estate and are cultivated with care by the owner himself. Vine tending and harvesting are all manual. Our wines reflect the passion, care and love that we give to our vines. If you want to learn more, join us for a wine tasting session and indulge into the wonderful world of wine making !
